02 – WARSAW
Breakfast. In the morning visit (with local guide) the most important monuments of this city, such as the Gothic Cathedral of St. John and the Barbican Gate; we cross the Old City Square (Rynek) with buildings of XVII and XVIII centuries and we see the Holy Cross Church, where the heart of Frederic Chopin is kept. Breakfast. Depart for Krakow. Upon arrival we’ll visit (with local guide) this city, founded more than a thousand years ago. We’ll see Wawel Castle, the Cathedral, the Church of St.Mary, the old city and the Jewish quarter. We’ll also pass through the Jagiellonian University, the oldest in Poland where the astronomer Copernicus studied. We also visit the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Lagiewniki. Breakfast. Depart for the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. Visit (with local guide) the former concentration and extermination camp, built by the Germans during the Nazi occupation of Poland. Here, during WWII, the Nazis exterminated more than 1 million people, most of them of Jewish origin. Today it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Departure to Wadowice, the hometown of Pope John Paul II. We’ll visit the house where he was born on May 18th, 1920 and the parish church in which he was baptized. After breakfast, depart on a half day city tour (with local guide) between Buda and Pest (the city is divided in two parts by the Danube River). Start in Buda with the historic Castle Hill, Fishermen’s Bastion, Gellert Hill, Margaret’s Island, Mathia’s Church and Buda Castle. In Pest, we see the National Parliament, Heroes’Square.
